Description

The ORICO PWM2 external enclosure is an ideal professional solution for repair workshops, IT technicians, and computer hardware resellers. This enclosure converts an internal M.2 SATA (NGFF) SSD into a high-performance external storage medium connected via USB-C. It is particularly suitable for data recovery from end-of-life laptops, creating ultra-fast external backup media, or giving a second life to M.2 SATA SSD modules replaced during IT hardware upgrades.

At the core of the system, the USB 3.2 Gen 1 interface offers a theoretical bandwidth of 5 Gbps, allowing transfer rates of M.2 SATA SSDs to be maximised (up to ~450-500 MB/s actual). The hardware architecture relies on a hybrid design combining a reinforced ABS chassis and an extruded aluminium alloy top cover. This aluminium plate acts as a passive heatsink for the SSD chip, preventing thermal throttling during large data volume transfers. The controller's software management supports UASP (USB Attached SCSI Protocol) and TRIM optimisation protocols, reducing CPU latency and maintaining write performance over time.

From an ergonomic standpoint, the structure has been designed for quick workbench maintenance thanks to a tool-free opening system. The SSD is locked in place using a silicone anchoring pin, thereby avoiding the use of micrometric screws which are prone to being lost. The presence of a blue LED indicator allows the operating status to be visualised instantly: solid when in standby or during startup, and flashing during read/write access. Furthermore, the enclosure automatically switches to standby mode after 10 minutes of inactivity to preserve the NAND memory chips and optimise overall power consumption.

Workshop Advice & Usage

Pay attention to protocol compatibility during workshop handling: this enclosure is exclusively dedicated to M.2 SSDs operating under the SATA protocol (B Key or B+M Key). It is not compatible with M.2 NVMe SSDs (PCIe M Key only). To avoid any customer service returns or erroneous fault diagnoses, you must check the keying notch and the label of the SSD to be inserted. When installing the drive, make sure to slide the M.2 connector all the way to the bottom of the slot at an angle of approximately 30° before lowering and locking the card with the silicone peg.
